Eskisehir Wisdom Tooth Extraction

Since wisdom teeth generally do not fit in with the jaw structure, they cause discomfort to people by causing pain and abscesses. For this reason, removing wisdom teeth is beneficial in terms of the person's health. The main reason for wisdom teeth problems is that there is not enough space in the jaw. The eruption of wisdom teeth will cause pain and also negatively affect neighboring teeth. If wisdom teeth fit the jaw structure, they do not need to be extracted. In order to understand that wisdom teeth will cause problems, it is necessary to have them checked by a dentist when they start to come out. In some cases, wisdom teeth are not visible from the outside, they come out in an impacted way and this manifests itself by causing pain. To prevent abscesses from forming in your teeth and damage to neighboring teeth, have your teeth checked regularly. In this way, you can protect your dental health by following the development of your teeth with early intervention.

What are Wisdom Teeth?

Tooth development begins in infancy between the ages of 6 months and 3 years with 20 milk teeth, 10 on top and 10 on the bottom. Afterwards, these milk teeth gradually fall out and give way to adult teeth. Of the total of 32 adult teeth, 28 are completed during childhood and adolescence. The remaining four molars are the wisdom teeth located at the very back of the lower and upper jaw. Wisdom teeth are generally problematic teeth. Wisdom teeth erupt impacted or partially impacted and cause many problems such as damaging other teeth and causing pain. Wisdom teeth that find the appropriate place in the jaw structure emerge without causing any problems and do not need to be extracted. However, impacted or problematic teeth wisdom teeth must be surgically removed.

Symptoms of Wisdom Teeth

If wisdom teeth can find a place for themselves in the gums and develop properly, they do not cause any symptoms. However, since most people do not have enough space in their jaw structure, wisdom teeth cause problems when they come out. Wisdom teeth symptoms, impacted, semi-impacted or misaligned teeth, occur in two different ways. The first of these is pain that occurs directly in the age of wisdom. The symptoms that occur under the second heading are reflection symptoms that occur in wisdom teeth. The symptoms that occur directly in the age of wisdom are tooth decay and or gum inflammation. But even if wisdom teeth do not cause direct pain, they do cause many referral symptoms.  When wisdom teeth emerge and become impacted, Common symptoms that occur when wisdom teeth remain are as follows;

  • Tooth and gum pain
  • Gum sensitivity
  • Jaw and ear pain
  • Lymph nodes swell
  • Bad breath
  • Restriction in mouth opening

How do we know when wisdom teeth are coming out?

Wisdom teeth are the last teeth to come out, there are 4 in each mouth, they grow behind the gums, are located at the very back of the jaw and are the last to come out. Wisdom teeth usually start to come out in late adolescence, early 20s. The most important signal that will help you understand that your wisdom teeth are coming out is pain at the back of your jaw and difficulty opening your jaw. If you are experiencing this condition, you should definitely see a dentist. The dentist will determine the location of your wisdom teeth, how they came out, and whether there is any narrowness in your jaw with the x-ray results. Your jaw structure may not have the appropriate width for your wisdom teeth. In this case, your wisdom teeth should be extracted to prevent damage to your other teeth. After the dentist's check-up, you can get the necessary information about whether your wisdom teeth should be extracted or not.

Weighted Teeth Infection Bad Breath

Weighted teeth, which can find a suitable place in the gums and emerge, are more difficult to clean than other teeth because they are located at the very back of the jaw and can become infected. Wisdom teeth cause bad breath due to food accumulation. Bacteria can cause infection in and around the wisdom tooth. Infection is more likely to occur in partially impacted teeth. Infected wisdom teeth cause bad odors in the mouth.

Empty, partially impacted and crowded teeth cause many oral and gum problems such as gum inflammation, bad breath, and damage to neighboring teeth. For this reason, impacted wisdom teeth or wisdom teeth that emerge by finding a suitable place in the mouth must be extracted because they create crowding. X-rays are taken to look at the condition of the wisdom teeth and to understand how they will be extracted. Wisdom teeth that emerge normally are extracted without requiring surgical intervention, just like other tooth extractions. However, only a small portion of wisdom teeth are extracted this way. The majority of wisdom teeth are removed through procedures that require surgery.

How is wisdom tooth surgery performed?

The determination of how wisdom teeth surgery is performed is entirely based on x-ray images of the tooth. In cases where the wisdom tooth is located in the gum and the tooth root is embedded in the jawbone, it is not possible to remove the tooth in one piece. In such cases, the wisdom tooth to be extracted is separated into pieces by the doctor and removed. Another method is to remove the impacted tooth by making an incision. Thanks to this incision, the impacted tooth can be extracted much more easily. After the tooth is removed, the area is cleaned and the gum is stitched closed. These stitches need to be removed after a while. Oral and maxillofacial surgeons specialize in such procedures. The duration of this surgery, which is performed under local anesthesia, varies depending on the location of the tooth and the number of teeth to be extracted.

Things to Consider After Wisdom Tooth Surgery

It is normal for the gums to bleed for a while after wisdom tooth surgery. In order for clotting to occur in the surgery area, food and water should not be eaten or drunk for a while. The patient should not spit as the clot may become dislodged. If stitches have been placed, a tampon is applied with sterile gauze. If bleeding continues, a new tampon should be placed. Swelling may be seen in the surgical area and pain may occur after the anesthesia wears off. In this case, a painkiller prescribed by the dentist can be used. The area where the wisdom tooth was extracted should not be touched with the tongue or hand, and the other side of the mouth should be used when eating. In addition, smoking should not be done for the first 24 hours as it may cause bleeding. An ice compress can be applied to the swollen area. A salt gargle should be done for the first 24 hours after surgery.

Benefits of Wisdom Teeth Extraction

Wisdom teeth are usually the last teeth to appear between the ages of 17-25. When wisdom teeth cannot find a suitable space, they can be impacted. or remain semi-impacted. Impacted teeth are of two types. The first of these is the impacted teeth that remain under the soft tissue and their extraction is easy and effortless. The second is the impacted teeth that are covered with bone tissue and must be removed with surgical intervention. Benefits of wisdom teeth extraction;

  • When wisdom teeth are not extracted, they can compress other teeth and distort their shape. Therefore, removing wisdom teeth prevents the front teeth in the jaw from becoming crooked.
  • If wisdom teeth are removed, neighboring teeth will not be damaged.
  • Removing wisdom teeth prevents infection.
  • Since wisdom teeth can cause bad breath due to food accumulation, removing them prevents bad breath.
